Jerkbait and Berkley Gulp Jig Fishing for Big Walleye in a River - Walleye Fishing Video

I was jerkbait and jig fishing in a river in New York during fall (late October). I started jigging at night by casting out a Berkley Gulp minnow jig and twitching it through a pool, and I caught a small walleye right away. Then, I started working a husky jerk rapala for big walleye, and I hooked into what looked like a 24" or 25" walleye a few feet in front of me, and it started thrashing and rolling around, and it threw the hook by the time I turned my red light and camera on. Then, a few casts after I lost that big walleye, my friend hooked into what some people might consider a trophy walleye -- 28" and 8 lbs, 11 ounces -- and I watched him beach it. I caught a few more decent walleyes before measuring and weighing his walleye and having a pike or musky cut my husky jerk off. I went to school and came back around sunset, and I caught another decent walleye around 19" and then a 20.5" walleye on a jointed rapala.

To celebrate the one year anniversary of WalleyeWisdom.com editors Michael Ganzeveld and Gary Speicher snuck down to Lake MacBride to see what was biting. Gary and Mike located and boated some very nice spring walleyes on a variety of jigs and lures. Northland Slurpies (their version of the ring worm) on a Gum Ball and Hutch jig tipped with a small winnow fished vertically seemed to work the best for us. Water temp hovered in the low fifties. The wind and rain that day made it feel like -50 in the boat! Basically, perfect weather to catch walleyes in Iowa!
